Dominik Zietlow
Nur die Berge begegnen sich nie
Manor Kunstpreis Zentralschweiz Luzern
Listening, being aware – attentively, concernedly, without exclamation marks – is a central motif in the works by Dominik Zietlow (*1988). In his films he examines the interplay between visual and acoustic phenomena. What does sound look like? What happens when the sound is absent? What stories emerge when only a fragment is audible? We perceive our environment, among other things, through our sense of hearing: listening means exchange and constitutes an interface between group and individual.
The artist uses performative and documentary approaches so as to question and shift the borderlines between the real and the fictional world. People in public spaces speak with an invisible other and their conversations become gradually woven into a portrait of a place. With a view to the Manor Kunstpreis, Dominik Zietlow engaged with his hometown Lucerne. Carnival provides the backdrop for his reflections on hearing, not hearing, exclusion, and the individual in the crowd, through moving images.
