spot on Andreas Brunner
in Kooperation mit Kommission Bildende Kunst Stadt Luzern
Andreas Brunner (*1988) has a Rocket icepop (Frisco Rakete Glacé) melt in a hand, coloured smoke rise from microphones, or cigarettes, brand name “Peace”, burn down. His short videos are not so much political statements as poetic concretions, as well as an engagement with processes and rhythms. For example, the cigarette constantly rises and falls in the loop, thus referencing even breathing.
The Lucerne artist combines observations and research associatively to create videos, installations, objects and performances. References to pop culture are also incorporated, as are architectural details or art history. His artistic research uncovers a river system, pursues Persephone, goddess of the underworld and of fertility, or skins the snakes in the Laocoon sculpture.
The Kommission Bildende Kunst Stadt Luzern awarded Andreas Brunner the 2025 spot on publication prize. The 22nd edition in this series will be published to coincide with the exhibition opening.
